WTHSoc April 2024 Meeting Details

Date - 26 April 2024 Time - 20:00 (Doors open 19:30) Location - Weston Turville Village Hall Title - “King Louis XVIII & the French royal family at Hartwell House” Speaker – Neil Rees Entrance - £2 members, £3 visitors During the French Revolution in 1793 the French king and queen were guillotined. Those who survived fled into exile, including the king’s brother, the titular Louis XVIII. In 1810 he and his family came to live at Hartwell House near Aylesbury. When Napoleon was defeated in 1814, he was offered the throne, and he left for Paris in a great procession through Aylesbury. Join us for the rest of the story. Neil entertained us in February 2022 with a fascinating talk entitled “Buckinghamshire’s Czech Connection”. He works as a computational linguist for the Bible Society. Neil is the author of several Local History books relating to Buckinghamshire, including "The Czech Connection” and “A Royal Exile – King Zog". The meeting starts at 8pm
