WTHSoc Nov 2023 Meeting Details

Date - 24 Nov 2023

Time - 20:00 (Doors open 19:30)

Location - Weston Turville Village Hall

Title - "Georgian Jewellery"

Speaker – John Benjamin

Entrance - £2 members, £3 visitors

John is a regular (his last presentation was "The Story of Faberge" in November 2021) and popular speaker at our society. On this occasion, he will guide us through Georgian Jewellery (1714-1830). Georgian Jewellery is accessible and not consigned to museums and safe deposit boxes. It was created before the discovery of gold in California and Alaska, and diamonds in South Africa when cutting equipment was much slower and less precise.

Formerly International Director of Jewellery at Phillips Fine Art Auctioneers, John Benjamin established his own independent valuation and advisory service in 1999. A Freeman of the Goldsmiths’ Company and a Freeman of the City of London, John is a Founder Liveryman and Court Assistant of The Worshipful Company of Arts Scholars.  A lecturer, valuer, historian and author, he has been a member of the team of experts on BBC Television’s Antiques Roadshow since 1991. John is also passionate about protecting the environment around Weston Turville.

The meeting starts at 8pm in the village hall and is open to all. Entrance £2 for members and £3 visitors. Doors open at 19:30 for welcoming refreshments. For further information about the Society visit the Society’s web page www.WTHSoc.org.uk or email Secretary@WTHSoc.org.uk
